The new exchange
BM&FBOVESPA is a Brazilian company, created in 2008, through the integration of the São Paulo Stock Exchange (Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo) and the Brazilian Mercantile & Futures Exchange (Bolsa de Mercadorias e Futuros).
It is the most important Brazilian institution to intermediate equity market transactions and the only securities, commodities and futures exchange in Brazil. BM&FBOVESPA further acts as a driver for the Brazilian capital markets. The company develops, implements and provides systems for the trading of equities, derivatives, fixed income securities, federal government securities, financial derivatives, spot foreign exchange and agricultural commodities. It has a settlement bank and four clearinghouses for the registration, clearing and settlement of transactions out on its trading systems. It also acts as a central securities depository, and licenses software and stock indices. The company further manages social investments with focus on developing the communities with which it interacts.
